Álvaro Arbeloa has been part of several top-tier defensive units, but whether he can develop one as a coach is still uncertain. Fulham have looked vulnerable since the Spanish coach took over, and they were lucky to avoid a penalty shootout against West Ham as this lively Carabao Cup match reached its conclusion.

West Ham twice pulled level in the opening half, and they came close to doing so again after Oscar Bobb put Fulham ahead 3-2 in the 78th minute. Nuno Espírito Santo was frustrated by a glaring miss from Taty Castellanos, but Fulham managed to secure a spot in the round of 16 after holding off late pressure from the Championship frontrunners.
